Buspirone tablets

Buspirone or Buspar is indicated for anxiety disorder management or for immediate relief of the symptoms of anxiety. It is particularly effective in persons with generalized anxiety of a moderate degree or even limited degree. It is not that effective in persons with severe panic disorders, anxiety disorder or even obsessive-compulsive disorders. This drug is used to reduce tension, anxiety that is associated with anxiety disorders and fear. But Buspirone is not to be used for tension or anxiety that is caused by stress. Buspirone does not cause sedation.

Dosage and Administration

Dosage of Buspirone varies for different patients. You have to follow the direction of your doctor or on the label. The following information is only for average dosage, but if your dosage is different don't adjust it not unless your doctor tells you to. The recommended total oral dosage of Buspirone for adults is 15mg per day, but you have to take it three times a day, so that means each dosage is only 5mg. After two to three days your doctor may add 5mg dosage per day if needed.

But the total daily dosage must not exceed 60mg. For children up to 18 years old, the dosage must be determined by your doctor but the effectiveness and safety of the medicine have not yet establish in children below 18 years old.

For missed doses, take the medicine as soon as possible but never take 2 doses at the same time. If it is nearly time for you to take your next dose, just skip the one dose you missed and go back to your regular dosing timetable.

Precaution before taking Buspirone:

You should not take Buspirone if you have experienced allergic reaction to other mood-altering drugs including Buspirone. Stress related anxiety or tension does not require Buspirone treatment. You have to thoroughly discuss your symptoms with your doctor. Buspirone is not recommended for patients with severe kidney damage or liver damage. Immediately inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant. If the medication is really essential to your health then it is up to your doctor to decide. And you have to inform your doctor if you have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors like: Parnate (Tranylcypromine), Nardil (Phenelzine), Marplan (Isocarboxazid), within the last fourteen days.

Some people may experience dizziness, lightheaded, less alert than they normally do. You have to know how to handle these effects prior to driving, using machineries or doing some dangerous activities.
